lyrics

I only have five minutes to say what I have to say
So I'll better be quick about it – I don't wanna waste no time
5 Minutes.

If I am lucky enough to live until 65 I
Will have 33.696.000 minutes to breathe
Our small five minutes fit in there 6.739.200 times.
They might just be a random piece of your timeline,
Just another brick in the wall.
But there once was a scientist who said
That time is relative.
And I believe we should listen to that genius
Forget all the numbers and mathematics
And make this moment stretch out a little longer.
Before I start I would like to ask everyone sitting in this room
To close your eyes for a short moment.
And in your mind I want you to imagine the wide blue ocean
With its vast and endless deep beauty
And with your breath you follow the waves of the salty water
Absorbing the air, pulling it in your lungs
Then pushing it out, rolling, fading out slowly
We are like rocks in the ocean
Telling ourselves to be solid and strong
While the waves keep us in motion
Pushing us up, pulling us down,
And there is nothing we can do about it
My life is built on memories.
Some of them seem enormous to me.
A couple of seconds sometimes stretch out over years
Motion, Smell, Pictures and Sounds
Repeating themselves over and over in my mind
Like the first time he kissed me,
The butterflies in my belly celebrating
Exploding in colourful fireworks
Or the moment when she pushed me away
Pain running through every inch of my body
Myself imploding in a million sharp pieces.
My life is built on memories.
But some of them simply don't exist.
Sometimes hours and days and weeks
Are filled with a monotonous routine
And I cannot fix them in my mind
If you asked me what I was doing two weeks ago
I would have to look it up in my calendar
Then I could list it up for you
Day and time and detailed activity
If you asked me what I will be doing in two weeks
I could do the same
And if you asked me then
If I had time for you
I would apologise and say:
No, I have no time.
We have no time.
We locked it up in a cage
And gave up our freedom.
We signed the wrong contract
And didn't notice it was a trap.
We are imprisoned by numbers,
One until twelve, then starting again.
A turning wheel, a ticking noise,
Night and day: ticking and ticking and ticking...
Reminding us that we are imprisoned.
We created a monster
And call it future
We fail to control it
Although we seem so sure
We cut off our wings
Our shoulders too heavy to fly
Loaded with a million things
While our life is passing by.
We are like rocks in the ocean
Telling ourselves to be solid and strong
While the waves keep us in motion
Pushing us up, pulling us down,
And there is nothing we can do about it
But what if you would let go for a second
What if you would stop running away
What if you would feel this moment
Realise the painful beauty
Of the things that slip away
Never to return again
Their bittersweet ephemera
You would open up your arms
Stretch out your wings
And embrace the freedom
That waited within you all the time
You are like a rock in the ocean
Telling yourself to be solid and strong
While the waves keep you in motion
Pushing you up, pulling you down
And then you give yourself to the water
And let the sea decide the way
Flattening your edges and borders
You become one with the wave
And it forms a shining pearl out of you
Glistening in the sun
Until you become smaller and smaller
And you get washed away with the sand.
